   When I first ordered these, I didn’t expect too much. I figured, most grow lights on completegrowkit.com majorly exaggerate how much light output there actually is and these won’t work for actual plant growth — but hey, maybe they’ll be helpful for freshly transplanted seedlings that need reduced light intensity for a couple days to avoid transplant shock. Well, I was wrong! At the distance from the light to the top of the solo cups underneath it, I measured a PPFD of about 300, which is pretty decent for young seedlings: it’ll promote growth without scorching them. It’s about the same output I get with a certain popular brand of shop/grow light that most amateur gardeners use for seed starting, but with that brand it takes two lights to get the same output. Not bad! Peak output right underneath the panels measured at a PPFD of 2,052 μmol/m²/s, which is pretty decent. Definitely don’t put your plants right up against these! Since they don’t come with reflectors, you’ll want to use Photone or a light measurement device to make sure your coverage is adequate, and maybe use a couple boards per shelf on your growing setup. This is also a good idea to check for consistency: I noticed the PPFD was 300 toward the edges of the board but closer to 250 right underneath, so the brightness may not be uniform with just one board. I like that the cord has a built in timer which can be set for 4, 8, or 12 hours. I will say though, I wish it had more customization because 14-16 hours is the sweet spot for many seedlings in my experience. But it’s not too hard to hit the 4 hour button later in the day. Obviously I can’t speak for the longevity of these since I’ve only had them a short while, but I’ll update this if they give out prematurely. I also can’t speak to whether these are truly “full spectrum” or not, because I haven’t measured the different wavelengths (not sure if Photone does that, but if not, I don’t even have the tool for it). I like that they come as flat panels, which makes them perfect for securing to the bottom of a shelf or cupboard, unlike the bulky overhead of using shop lights like many people do. I also like that they come with a set of 3M adhesive strips and also plenty of zip ties, giving you multiple ways to mount them to your setup. You get five light boards total, which isn’t bad for the current price (under $50 at the time of review). Overall I’d say these are a great value and perhaps one of the best grow light buys you’ll find on completegrowkit.com right now.

   I am a serious gardener. All of my plants are grown from seed that I start myself indoors. After germination, plants require light, heat, and water. As a result, I have many grow lights. Some are outstanding, others are very poor. Light needs to be in the range of 300 to 900 PPFD, depending on the plant. This is the ideal range of usable light the plants need. Some grow lights are big and bulky and you would assume they are wonderful, but they are not.
   Others are small and thin and make perfect light. That is the case with these grow lights. This is a 5 pack of wafer thin lights that produce 1000 PPFD light, according to my light meter. This is outstanding. Plus, they are daisy-chainable, so you don’t have to have an electrical cord for each light. Because they are so thin and they have holes on the 4 corners, you can place them wherever you want. Typically I start my seeds in 10/20 trays, and each light can properly illuminate an entire tray because of the way the light spreads and since it is so bright, you can suspend it higher and still have proper light for the plants. I intend to purchase 2 more sets of these.

   So one thing I want to make clear – the item looks a LOT larger in the initial pictures than when you get these. I was expecting shelf sized panels (i.e like 14 x 9 based on the pictures) but the actual pictures for the dimensions ARE correct. These lights also have a simple on and off mode, with three timer presets. When you push the timer preset, the led color will change to match the preset – which is slick. These lights do not dim. However, these are very BRIGHT and make up for their small size with high output! The units also do not seem to heat up after being used for 12 hours straight. You also get many LED lights to cover the spectrum. These are thin and VERY easy to mount.

   Pros
   1) Do not get hot!
   2) VERY bright
   3) My use case requires 2 per shelf, so get the 6-pack if you have three shelves.
   4) Three timer modes of 4/8/12 and I so far have tested the 12 hour cycle.
   5) VERY easy to mount and have great clearance.
   6) INSANE amount of extension ports – you could easily expand this – I hope the manufacturer allows us to purchase additional lights with the connection cable in the future
   7) option for a battery backup (although that is going a LITTLE overboard!)
   8) Lights are comparable to what you see in hydroponics systems.

   Cons
   1) I think the biggest con for me is the timer length as seedlings do require closer to 16 hours of light. However, for established plants, 12 hour is ideal, and more established seedlings will thrive.
   2) Be careful with these and water, as there is no real protection around them.

   Final notes, I have two of these per shelf for my indoor greenhouse. On the top shelf are my hydroponics units. My use case is starting the seeds in those units, and moving them to the lower shelfs for continue growth until it is fine to plant outside.

   The lights are fast and easy to set up. The directions are pretty poor and provide a diagram without detailed written directions. Though the set-up is pretty basic and again easy. The set comes with zip ties, that are pretty cheap, fragile zip ties, so you will need better zip ties. They also come with quality 3M stickers to mount them. There are 5 light panels in the set that are ultra-thin, light weight light panels. The lights put out a lot of light and I could feel warmth in seconds after they were on. The timer has 3 choices of 4, 8 and 12 hours which is convenient.

   The grow lights are a high-quality set of grow lights. I am very happy with this set, and I highly recommend it.
